• Review and refine grammatical skills in Spanish through reading and writing.
• Read and discuss original work in Spanish (short stories, novels, newspapers, etc.)
• Continue to deepen the appreciation of the Spanish speaking culture and people.

1. Watch Spanish News Programs, soap operas, or Cartoons
2. Turn on the Spanish subtitles for any movie or television program
3. Read online articles in Spanish that you already read about in English
4. Take the initiative to practice your skill with the experts at just about any market, grocery store, or wherever you encounter a native speaker !

Course Description
- · This course is designed for the student who wants to become proficient in the Spanish language.
- · Spanish 4 Honors will be conducted primarily in Spanish. Oral participation is extremely important in this class.
- · Daily preparation for class is a necessity. Students will be enhancing their reading comprehension, listening, speaking and writing skills.
- · Spanish 4 Honors will prepare students for Spanish AP their senior year, or to continue at the college level, possibly even test out of the language requirements that Universities often require.
- · This course will review tenses previously taught in levels one through three: present, preterit, commands, and imperfect tense, future, conditional, and subjunctive mood.
- · Course will deepen the understanding of all tenses and moods appropriate for level 4 including but not limited to Subjunctive Mood (all cases), 4 Perfect tenses, extensive vocabulary, and country and cultural exploration.

¡Hola Chicos!
Me alegra que hayais decidido continuar vuestros estudios de español. La clase de AP es una clase equivalente a una clase universitaria de espanol del tercer año.
Vais a tener que hacer trabajo independiente. Será necesario usar español dentro y fuera de la sala de clase para adquirir fluídez en el idioma.
Tendreis que manteneros informados sobre lo que pasa en el mundo hispanohablante porque discutiremos las noticias cada viernes.
El éxito que tendreis en esta clase, dependerá del esfuerzo y el interés que tengais en aprender más sobre el idioma, su gente y su cultura.
Vosotros sois los responsables de vuestro propio aprendizaje. Yo estoy aqui para guiaros y ayudaros cuando sea necesario.

SYLLABUS
This course emphasizes the use of the language for active communication as students continue to increase their proficiency in each of the four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing in accordance with ACTFL proficiency guidelines.
The goals of the course will include:
- Providing students with a strong command of vocabulary and structure.
- An understanding of the spoken target language in various conversational situations,
- Developing reading skills through use of authentic materials, to include but not limited to newspapers and magazines, fictional and non-fictional literary texts, and non-technical writings, as well as authentic audio and visual materials and computer and web-based activities.
- Culture is integrated throughout the year, connected to the reading, listening, writing and speaking activities. The course will be conducted exclusively in the target language.

Homework will be given two-three times per week and checked for correctness at
random. Homework will not be accepted late and credit will not be given unless the assignment is complete.
Extra Credit:
Opportunities for extra credit will be available throughout each marking
period. Upon assignment, I will
explain the task, its point value and the due
date.
Absences: In the event that you are absent from class, it is your responsibility to retrieve missed work. If you know a date you will be absent, let me know at least two days prior to that
date so I can give you your work ahead of time. If you miss class due to an illness or other reason, you have two days to turn in/make up any missed work for full credit. If you miss class due to a fieldtrip, game, performance, it is your responsibility to hand in assignments, projects and retrieve work prior to your absence. No excuses!
Bathroom, nurse, locker:
Whenyou need to leave class, please choose an appropriate time. Have your agenda book ready to be filled out. Please try and take no more than 5 minutes. Students may leave classroom one at a time.
Grades:
Your final grade for the class will be based upon your grades from each marking period, the
mid-term and final exam. The mid-term exam will be given after the second marking period and will cover only marking periods 1 and 2. The final will be given after the fourth marking period and will only cover marking periods 3 and 4. Please use
Sapphire to keep track of your grade and notify me of any discrepancies.
Grade Breakdown:
15% = Classwork/Homework 85% = Assessments
(quizzes, tests, projects, etc.)
Have your parents read the above information and complete the
parent form on the website.
